Each Friday, the Crescent Lake Club brings you the latest Foodie Find – a review of a dish, cocktail or even a restaurant that you’ve been missing out on!
I am not quite sure what has taken me so long to do a Foodie Find on this place but the time has come. Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’ is a must do restaurant for me at Walt Disney World. I for one cannot find a negative thing to say about this place. Now I will preface this by saying I am from the upper midwest and don’t get to have good southern food very often so native southerners may have different opinions on Homecomin’. Homecomin’ is open for lunch and dinner and on weekends they do an awesome brunch!
I am a big fan of sweet tea in general so of course one of my favorite drinks at Homecomin’ is the sweet tea shine. This is sweet tea, fresh-squeezed lemon and moonshine. You can get this in a glass or refillable squeeze bottle which is of course what I do. They also have several other specialty drinks to choose from. You can get them either when dining there or at their outdoor and newly expanded Shine Bar!
You of course can’t forget about the endless options of food though. For starters you have their famous deviled eggs, Thigh High Chicken Biscuits, or Momma’s Mac and Cheese. For your main dishes you cannot go wrong with Art’s Famous Fried Chicken which is buttermilk brined for 24 hours, and then served with creamy mashed potatoes, and a cheddar drop biscuit. You can also get fried chicken and doughnuts which is another popular option. A go to for me outside those is the Fried Chicken Sandwich, which is the same famous fried chicken dressed with hot sauce, aioli, lettuce, tomato, and pickles. They are served with house-made barbecue chips drizzled with icebox dressing. My mouth is just drooling thinking about it!
And finally, you can’t forget dessert at Homecomin’. They have a few famous options to choose from including the Shine Cake which is an adult only butter cake soaked in moonshine syrup and served with seasonal fruit gastrique and a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream. Another great option is the Hummingbird Cake: pineapple-banana cake with cream cheese frosting served with seasonal fruit gastrique and a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream.
It really is hard to not find something to enjoy at Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’. If you have yet tp go, I cannot recommend it enough! Stay tuned for more exciting foodie finds to come!
