When you think of a Disney Cruise or cruise in general, you probably jump to all the food, relaxing by the pool, and dazzling entertainment. But what if I told you that one of the most unexpected, sophisticated and unique experiences onboard the Disney Wish is tucked away on Deck 4? Hook’s Barbery, is where sharp style meets old-world charm, and yes, get yourself an old fashioned while you’re at it.

The Disney Wish, Treasure and soon to be Destiny all feature Hook’s Barbery and for the ladies, Untangled Salon. Most cruise ships will offer salon style services within their spa offerings. Here on this class of Disney ships, they are separate spaces outside of the spa. Hook’s Barbery takes that to another level also acting as a bar in the evenings. The space is themed after Captain Hook himself, acting as a space on his very own Jolly Roger. Guests can experience haircuts, shaves and facial treatments. You can enjoy a beverage during your service or later on after. The bartender typically isn’t working until late afternoon or evening.

I scheduled a haircut for Day two of my four night sailing aboard the Wish. I took an 8:30 AM slot which then allowed me to get on with the rest of my day after that. That also meant no sipping a beverage during my haircut. Don’t worry though, I returned later on. I have never experienced any salon service aboard a cruise ship. Given my frequent travels the last few months I was in need of a cut so I decided to go for it.

A regular haircut begins around $59 as of now on the Wish. Pricing is always subject to change. They offer first cuts for little sailors as well. I did not experience any of the shave or salon type offerings at this time. My barber was lovely, making the experience even better. I go to the same barber every time at home so I wasn’t always sure how to answer the questions regarding hair length and such. However, she worked with me and we figured it out in the end. I was very pleased with the whole process and finished product. Haircut from start to finish probably took 30-40 minutes give or take.

The final cost with tip was $74.62. The charge will come up as a Senses Spa charge on your guest folio. Any bar service charge will show up as Hook’s Barbery. Just something to note.

Given the new cut, I spotted some friends in the Grand Hall to show it off!

The Bar Experience

Later on that evening I headed back to experience the other aspect of this venue. The bar! There was a couple in front of me ordering a smokey old fashioned. The whole thing can be customized how you want based on what they have. The bartender did ask me which bourbon I would prefer. They have bourbons ranging from around $15 to $2000. I went with Knob Creek for mine which was his recommendation of the few he had out already. The drink took several minutes to create but the end product was worth it. The whole process is very interesting to watch.

The cost of my old fashioned was roughly $25. It was a fun experience that I would definitely do again. I think I would even try a shave service next time as well. The bar experience was top notch as well and one I would return to with or without the salon services. I am always looking for a good old fashioned. This was an elevated venue and service from start to finish.
