With roughly a week to go in the existing order, the Centers for Disease Control extended the Conditional Sailing Order for COVID-19 protocol on cruise ships through January 15th.
The Conditional Sailing Order includes a phased approach for cruise ships to resume operations from the United States. Many ships have been able to resume under this order since it was first issued and more ships are planed to resume on many cruise lines soon. The CDC currently intends for the program to expire in January and then cruise lines shift to voluntarily using the guidelines going forward.
The extension of the order did include some minor changes such as requiring voyages to be limited to seven days and requirement for a monitored observation period of passengers prior to embarking. Many cruise lines have seen success and business rebounding with this order and think guests on board feel safe and satisfied with protocols in place.
