Each year IAAPA (International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions) holds an expo celebrating everything attraction and entertainment related. As part of the expo, the TEA or Themed Entertainment Association announces top honors for achievements throughout the past year.

This year, Disney’s Stuntronics technology earned Outstanding Technical Achievement. Walt Disney Imagineers developed advanced robotic figures that are able to make real time decisions. This technology was put to use most recently with Spider-Man in Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure.

In addition, retired imagineer Doris Hardoon received the Buzz Price Thea Award recognizing her lifetime of work to the industry. Doris began with Disney in 1979 and helped bring World Showcase in Epcot to life as well as working on Tokyo Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, and Shanghai Disneyland.

Walt Disney Imagineering’s Carmen Smith received the Thea Catalyst Award. This award is given to an individual who has made an important impact on the industry. Carmen is Senior Vice President of Creative Development, Product/Content & Inclusive Strategies for Disney Parks.

Disney Live Entertainment is also the recipient of some awards. Magic Happens, the daytime parade from Disneyland won a Brass Ring Award for Best Atmosphere Street Show. Oogie Boogie Bash at Disney California Adventure won for Most Creative Halloween Haunt, Show or Experience. Remy’s Feature Plush won the Brass Ring for Best Plush.
