Comcast and Universal Parks announced today they are resuming construction on their third major land theme park at the Universal Orlando Resort.
Until today the project had been on hold due to economic uncertainty with the ongoing pandemic. Comcast now feels things are looking brighter ahead and construction will resume immediately. Comcast CEO Brian Roberts believes the theme park business can only go up. The construction while beginning right away will not be up to full speed until later this year as Universal brings back staff and contracting partners.
Epic Universe will bring in hundreds of jobs within Universal itself and thousands across Central Florida. Orange County and Orlando are also very happy to see the project resume. Universal and Comcast did not comment on any updated timeline for the opening of this park. When announced in 2019 the park was expected to open in 2023.
Teetz’s Take:
There is nothing but positives to come from the restarting of this project. A brand new theme park within Orlando is something really not seen since Animal Kingdom and Islands of Adventure opened if we don’t count water parks. As a new found Universal theme park fan I cannot wait to see what this park has to offer.
Concept art showcases Nintendo, Classic Monsters, more Harry Potter and so much more. Universal has continued to knock it out of the park with expansions and new attractions as of late. I have full confidence they will do the same with this new park.
Are you excited for this new theme park?
