Each Friday, the Crescent Lake Club brings you the latest Foodie Find — a review of a dish, cocktail or even restaurant that you’ve been missing out on!
This week we venture to a far off land away from the Walt Disney World Resort. Toothsome Chocolate Emporium in City Walk at Universal Orlando is a popular stop and mainly known for its special treats and massive shakes. That is not all they do however. Toothsome is a full service sit down restaurant with an all day brunch menu and of course lunch and dinner. They also have a full bar on the second level and a treat shop on the first level.
I had yet to check out Toothsome Chocolate Emporium and honestly did not know a lot about it outside of its famous shakes. Believe it or not I didn’t even get a shake on this trip. I know I will be back though and will definitely try one next time.
The menu at Toothsome is extensive and has a wide variety of things to choose from. Like I mentioned earlier they offer an all day brunch menu as well. I ate here for dinner though and was not feeling brunch. I went for my signature item in a burger, but not just any burger, the Tour de France as it was called. This burger had a fried egg, lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, crispy onions, French brie, on toasted brioche. You then had a choice of fries or homemade chips as a side and I settled on the chips.
This hearty burger was $15.95 and quite good. It wasn’t over cooked and has everything I expect in a good burger. They have several others on the menu as well. If you are at Universal and looking for a good burger at a sit down restaurant, I would recommend Toothsome. Next time I would be inclined to try one of the many other things they have like their flatbreads, or short rib.
I couldn’t pass up the opportunity for a beverage to go along with this though. They have several specialty cocktails at Toothsome and I had to try one. My choice was the Revolutionary Old Fashioned. This was $14 and was Four Roses Bourbon, crème de framboise, Cointreau, super, and Peychaud’s bitters. They have six different takes on the old fashioned on their menu. Now the revolutionary was not my favorite thing but I enjoyed it. I would definitely try one of the others like the Old Chocolate Fashioned before going back to this one.
Like I mentioned earlier, I did decide to skip dessert this time. It is definitely on my list for a follow up visit though. If you are at Universal Orlando and need a break from the crowds or heat I don’t think you can go wrong with the incredibly well themed venue. Normally they would have some actors going around the restaurant adding to the atmosphere but for right now they are stationed in the lobby area instead.
