Universal Orlando Resort finally gave haunt fans what they were looking for — the premiere trailer for Halloween Horror Nights 30! Despite being leaked on Reddit and other social sites earlier in the week, the trailer featuring long-standing HHN icon Jack the Clown did not disappoint.
The official Universal Orlando YouTube account toyed with viewers for about 24 hours prior to the announcement with different streams featuring playback video, television static, creepy fog and more effects … culminating in the official presentation of the premiere video that Jack was back — and in more ways than one. It’s safe to say that we’ll be experiencing this iconic host in more areas than just advertising and a haunted house during the event, thanks to this tweet from the official Halloween Horror Nights Twitter account shortly after the premiere video released:
Jack the Clown made his debut 20 years ago at HHN 10 — a unique creation by the Haunt Masters at HHN, Jack drew inspiration from demonic clowns such as John Wayne Gacy and Pennywise from Stephen Kings’ “It”. Creating the creep persona the first original HHN icon was a lengthy process.
“What do people fear? What do they want to see, what don’t they want to see?” Michael Aiello tells the Halloween Horror Nights official blog about the creation of Jack “The Clown” Schmidt. “We used to do surveys and we always got fear of spiders, the dark, and clowns. Clowns were always number one. The Art & Design team at the time took that thought and the rest they say is history. But nobody knew Jack would become what Jack is now.”
