Remy’s Ratatouille’s Adventure, as it is now called at Walt Disney World, was first announced in 2017 at the D23 Expo. This attraction is a clone of the one in Walt Disney Studios Park at Disneyland Paris, which opened back in 2014. Guests are “shrunk” down to the size of a rat and board a trackless ride vehicle that takes you on an adventure through the kitchen of Gusteau’s restaurant. This attraction is also considered 4-D, as it uses 3-D glasses along with smells and effects to enhance the experience.
Work began on the attraction at Epcot soon after it was announced and is positioned behind the existing France pavilion within World Showcase at Epcot. The attraction has a sizable footprint and took over one of the existing “expansion plots” at Epcot that many fans had hoped would one day be used for another country pavillion. The big difference between the Paris and Florida attractions is that the Paris attraction is attached to Bistro Chez Remy, a highly-themed dining experience. In Walt Disney World, a new dining venue called La Creperie de Paris will be adjacent to the attraction.
Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure was set to open at Epcot back in 2020, but with the spread of Covid-19 construction on the attraction was halted for a bit and then intentionally delayed until Walt Disney World got back on its feet during the pandemic. So, here we are in 2021 awaiting the opening of the next big Walt Disney World attraction.
Disney has said the attraction will open in 2021, but has not said anything further. Early this year, the new bathrooms within the expansion area opened — heightening the speculation and hype for when this ride will eventually open. Unfortunately, this move was simply done due the closure of the Morocco pavilion bathrooms next door.
That fact has not killed the speculation and rumors however — and Disney has been filming and allowing celebrities sneak peaks into the attraction. Many sources out there are noting we should see the attraction open this spring with many even more specifically saying March. Given the pending Spring Break time period that comes in March, this is a plausible assumption. We certainly won’t know until Disney officially opens up the gates. At the very least, the attraction should open in time for the start of Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary celebration in October — which is yet another big event we know very little about at this time.
We here at the Crescent Lake Club cannot wait to experience this new attraction and hopefully dine at the Creperie. Are you excited for what is to come at the France pavilion in Epcot?
