Chops Grille is a staple across the Royal Caribbean fleet and it continues to be onboard the newest ship, Icon of the Seas. Icon takes it to a new level however with an open kitchen, butcher’s display and new special “Iconic cuts” that can only be found on Icon of the Seas.
Whether you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary or any special occasion Chops is definitely a great place to do it. This dining experience does come at an extra cost. Reservations are recommended ahead of time and you often can find some discounts in advance as well. On Icon of the Seas, Chops Grille is located on deck 8 within Central Park. There is indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating is covered in the off chance it does rain. On sea days you can find Chops open for lunch in additions to dinner.
For those looking to elevate their dining even further the iconic cuts will do that. Now for my meal I did not partake. I also went through plenty of reviews and research ahead of time which shared unfavorable takes on the waygu cuts not being worth the extra money.
You begin your meal bread of course. There is a plethora of starter options to choose from. Your server will provide some recommendations if needed. I went with the Grilled Black Pepper Bacon as my starter.
This was super tender and well flavored. I would’ve ate more than one had I not had some more courses to go. I would most certainly order this again on my next visit to Chops.
Moving onto my main course I went with the 9 ounce filet. I ordered this medium with two sides. They allow you to order multiple sides with your entree here at Chops. I certainly did not want to overdo it so only ordered two to go with my filet; Yukon Gold Mashed Potatoes and Mac & Cheese.
The steak was superb. It was very tender and my server brought by three different sauces to go along with it, Béarnaise and au Poivre and Bordelaise. All three sauces were very good and offer different flavors to pair well with the steak. I was also a huge fan of the mashed potatoes. Now the Mac & Cheese on the other hand was not my favorite. It was not bad per se but was nothing special either. It seemed to me it was no different than what you could find in Windjammer. Overall I was very happy with what I ordered here.
Moving onto dessert there are several options to choose from and again you could order multiple if you desire. I went with the warm apple pie à la mode. This is served with vanilla ice cream and was another great part of a great meal.
Like I had mentioned above, if you are celebrating anything or even just want a special meal, Chops Grille is a great place to do it. Service was outstanding throughout my meal as well. Whether it is on Icon of the Seas or any other Royal Caribbean ship, check out Chops Grille.
