Walt Disney World in itself can be a very active vacation. Many people come back and say “I needed a vacation from my vacation!”. Visitors can walk upwards of ten miles in a day, depending on their various touring plans or strategies.
Now under the current pandemic restrictions at Walt Disney World working out in a resort fitness center is still possible in most cases. Each fitness center does have set guidelines and require mask wearing while inside. For the most up to date specifics you’ll want to check with that resort itself.
For myself, I am not much of one who like to workout much on vacation. With that said I do travel quite a bit in non-pandemic times to specifically run events in various places including Walt Disney World. I started running Disney events in 2015 and have been part of over 25 since. Running throughout Walt Disney World property whether it is for a race or just for fitness is a lot of fun.
While running may not be for everyone even a morning or evening walk around a resort can be beneficial. I for one am a big fan of the Epcot resort area and that’s what inspired our website. Whether it’s early in the morning or in the evening walking or running around Crescent Lake is hard to beat. The Boardwalk all lit up is a sight to see. The sun rising over Crescent Lake can’t be beat either.
Crescent Lake is certainly not the only place to enjoy a nice walk or run. If you’re staying at a value and one of my personal favorite resorts in Pop Century you can make your way around Hourglass Lake. One of the fun parts about running at the values like Pop Century or Art of Animation is the characters and giant figures you can see. As a runDisney fan like myself I have to stop for some fun photos along the way.
Some resorts do not offer the greatest running or walking experiences such as Animal Kingdom Lodge. Due to the secluded and unique nature of this resort complex there isn’t really a running trail to happen upon. If you just want to walk that is a bit easier as you can go between Jambo House and Kidani Village and stop along the way at the various animal viewing sites. The Contemporary is another resort where running could be problematic.
For those staying at a resort like Saratoga Springs, Old Key West, Caribbean Beach, Riviera, Coronado Springs, or Port Orleans French Quarter and Riverside, you have tons of space to get in some mileage. These are Walt Disney Worlds most sprawling resorts. Saratoga Springs and Old Key West even are connected to golf courses giving them even more space. The views at these resorts may not be what you will find elsewhere but you’re at Walt Disney World nonetheless and surely that’s better than running or walking in your neighborhood.
I hope this gives you some ideas on how to stay active while on vacation at Walt Disney World. I know I surely can’t wait to get back and take a stroll at any of these resorts.
